Then outline a detailed brief giving sizes, the content of the illustration/illustrations and the style of graphic illustration you require. This is best done by telling him what you have seen in his illustration portfolio that made you think he could be the man for the job.

If the brief is very exact, then he will give you a firm price. If you need Richard's help in developing your idea then he will give an estimate. If you give him a budget he will outline what can be achieved.
